Sanjay Subrahmanyam

Sanjay Subrahmanyam holds a Ph.D. in Economic History from the Delhi School of Economics. In 2002, he was appointed as the first holder of the Chair in Indian History and Culture at the University of Oxford. He is currently the Doshi Chair at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) where he teaches courses on medieval and early modern South Asian and Indian Ocean history, the history of European expansion, the comparative history of early modern empires, and world history. He is also the Director of UCLA’s Centre for India and South Asia and Joint Managing Editor of The Indian Economic and Social History Review.
